The Great Clothesline Conversation

The Great Clothesline Conversation

One of the unexpected joys of building FlexiDry has been getting out and meeting people face-to-face. Over the last couple of years, we've travelled up and down the country, attended shows, and had more conversations about washing than I ever thought possible!

Most recently, we packed up for the Better Living Show in Wellington and the Home & Garden Show in Auckland. As always, the people were fantastic. We swapped endless stories about winter laundry battles, rising power bills, and those trusty old rotary clotheslines that have been planted in exactly the same spot since the house was built.

Nobody needed convincing that winter drying is a challenge. But as people wandered over to the FlexiDry stand, gave it a push, and had a good look around, the exact same question came up over and over again:

“So... does it fold up?”

After hearing it for the fiftieth time that weekend, a lightbulb suddenly went off. People weren't actually asking about hinges or engineering. They were trying to answer a much simpler question:

“What exactly is this thing, and where do I put it?”

And honestly, I don't blame them. Most of us grew up with only three options:

1:The traditional backyard clothesline that never moves.

2:The flimsy indoor clothes horse that collapses under a wet towel and blocks the TV.

3:The tumble dryer working overtime while you watch the power meter spinning into financial orbit (while praying your favourite woollen jersey doesn't shrink to fit a teddy bear!).

It feels like a winter battle you just can't win. Then along comes a full-size clothesline on wheels, and people aren't quite sure which box to put it in.

FlexiDry isn't trying to be a better clothes horse, and it isn't a permanent rotary line. It’s simply a proper outdoor clothesline designed around the way we actually live. Because life isn't fixed. The sun moves, the weather changes, and our outdoor spaces serve multiple purposes.

One of my favourite moments in Auckland came from a lovely lady who stood quietly looking at the FlexiDry for a few minutes before suddenly smiling and saying:

“Oh! It’s a proper clothesline that moves.”

Exactly! That was it. One sentence.

No complicated talk about steel or castors—just a simple solution to a daily frustration.

Need more sun? Move the line.

Rain heading your way? Move the line.

Need the patio back for a weekend BBQ? Move the line.

Simple.

Funnily enough, once people saw it that way, the folding question vanished. Instead of asking what it was, they started excitedly telling us exactly where they'd use it at their place: on the deck, beside the garage, under the carport, or outside the laundry. Suddenly, they could picture it in their own lives.

We even had the gorgeous Toni Street stop by the stand for a yarn! She loved the concept so much she shared a nod on her Instagram, letting her followers know she “might just have to get one” for her own busy household!

If you've been wondering what FlexiDry actually is, here is the simplest answer we've come up with: It's a proper outdoor clothesline that moves with you. And for a growing number of Kiwi households, that's turning out to be exactly what they've been looking for.

We're now busy loading up and getting ready for Fieldays at Mystery Creek in two weeks! If you're heading along, come and say hello!

Give the FlexiDry a push, see how easily it moves, and ask us all the questions you like.

And yes, if “Does it fold up?” is one of them, I promise you’ll be in very good company!

Until next time,

Michele
